With British driver Jenson Button
currently leading the Drivers' World
Championship and Lewis Hamilton returning
to Silverstone as reigning World
Champion, the atmosphere and the incredible
support shown by the British fans is
guaranteed to be awe-inspiring.
Jenson is on his way to win a
memorable 2009 F1 Championship and
there is not a lot of competition out there
to stop him. This could be not only the last
Silverstone F1 GP but it could also be the
last GP in the UK, in its original meaning,
looked after by the FIA. The contrasts
between the Federation International
Automobile and the FOTA, the Federation
of the Teams is getting tough and there is
a chance that next year we will see a brand
new Championship, governed by the teams
themselves. The budget cap to forty five
million euro, proposed by Mr Max Mosley,
President of FIA, seems to be the reason
of friction.
The last ever British Grand Prix at
Silverstone promises to be one of the
biggest sporting events of the year, and
fans can expect three days of first class
entertainment as the circuit celebrates its
rich and illustrious British Grand Prix history.
Headlining the timetable of off-track
entertainment will be the ever-popular
Grand Prix Party, which has become synonymous
with the British Grand Prix as the
ultimate post-race party for drivers and
fans alike. The on-stage line-up currently
includes a host of past and present F1 legends
ranging from Britain's latest star
driver, Jenson Button, to former World
Champions, Sir Jackie Stewart OBE and
Damon Hill OBE.
The Grand Prix Party has been
hosted by Silverstone over the years as a
way of thanking the fans and providing
them with a rare opportunity to get close
to the drivers, while they enjoy music from
a host of live bands. In 2008 more than
20,000 fans stayed behind for this
renowned Grand Prix celebration, held in
the centre of the circuit and accessible to
all race day tickets holders. Topping the
bill this year in terms of live music will be
the highly acclaimed 'Counterfeit Stones'.
NEW for 2009, there will also be
an F1 driver signing session on the
Saturday afternoon where 250 lucky fans
will be able to obtain autographs from the
majority of current F1 drivers. In order to
attend this exclusive signing session, fans
should visit the Entertainment Zones at
Copse and Stowe on Friday and Saturday
of the event, where competitions will be
taking place throughout each day giving
spectators the chance to win a place at
the autograph session.
In celebration of the British Grand
Prix and its heritage as one of the most
treasured events on the Grand Prix calendar,
Silverstone is also proud to be displaying
a unique photographic exhibition.
Pictures from three of the UK's leading
photographic agencies - LAT Photographic,
Getty Images and Sutton Images - will be
brought together to represent some of the
most iconic British Grand Prix moments at
Silverstone, with images ranging from the
1950's through to 2008.
In addition, the Red Arrows display
team will be flying over Silverstone on race
day.
Giant screens will be situated
around the circuit, enabling fans to keep
up to speed with all the on- track action
which, in addition to the F1, will feature
racing from the GP2 Series, Formula
BMW, Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and the
Silverstone Historic Saloon Car Challenge.
Don’t miss the race. It will be live
on TV at 16h00, Dubai time
