Mercedes-Benz likes to describe
the compact GLK as a modern SUV
with the genes of a G-Class, their
largest SUV. Priced at around
176,000AED, the special edition
comes with a panoramic sunroof, twin
electric blinds, 20-inch alloy wheels,
footplates, new front bumper with LED
fog lights and a new diffuser-look rear
apron with integrated exhausts.
On the inside, the GLK Grand Edition
comes with a multifunction steering
wheel with gear shifter paddles, a new
look instrument cluster, aluminium trim,
ambient lighting and Nappa leather trim
on the steering wheel and gear lever.
Included with the Grand Edition is an
interior sports package that consists of
a three-spoke multifunction steering
wheel with column gear-change paddles,
a silver coloured tube type instrument
cluster, aluminium trim, an interior light
package and ‘Nappa’ leather trim on the
steering wheel and gear lever.
The drive was comfortable, although I
found the steering on the light side. For
a compact SUV, this little baby G sure
has a lot of head-room. I drove around
wearing a top hat the whole time. Why,
you ask? Because I could.
"The new GLK is part of our successful
SUV family of the ML-Class, GL-Class,
G-Class and offers typical Mercedes-
Benz attributes such as refinement,
dynamism and safety in a compact format,”
said Frank Bernthaler, Director,
Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz
Middle East & Levant. “We raised the
segment bar with the GLK and are raising
it yet again with the Grand Edition.”
So, a comfortable ride, deceptively
spacious interior for a compact SUV.
Just one small thing to ask… please
move the fire extinguisher from under
the drivers seat. I caught my achilles
heel on it three times and it made me
feel a little bit cross.
Working in conjunction with
the onboard electronic control
systems, the variable 4MATIC
four-wheel drive ensures apparently
ensures well-balanced offroad
capabilities. I confess that
I didn’t put these to the test,
preferring to leave that one to
our editor. He is currently out in
Jordan with Mercedes, putting
the SUVs through their paces
off-road, so we’ll get back to you
on that!
