MINI Connected is a unique integration of the online world which revolutionises in-car infotainment.
AGMC and MINI Middle East recently invited Auto Trader to experience the new infotainment system fitted to all their new cars. The new technology is only compatible with the iPhone, unfortunately to all you Android owners this may seem a little frustrating, but rest assured, the boffins at MINI are working hard to rectify this.
Let’s start with the Web radio, because this, in our opinion, is the most useful feature. Once the iPhone is connected you simply forget about the handheld device and focus on the screen in the middle of the speedometer, any radio station you have previously saved on your phone will show up for selection on the screen when you select ‘web radio’.
Then it gets really interesting... select the option ‘dynamic music’ and the on board computer plays music suitable to the status of your driving, drive slow and relaxing music will be played, and if you drive fast more up-beat music will be played.
Another feature is the ability to update your Facebook status on the go, but not whilst the wheels are in motion. The same goes for watching videos, you have to be stationary in order for it to work.
‘RSS feed’ allows you to read your favourite headlines and news-feeds on the screen.
But the feature that intrigued us the most was ‘The Excitement Analyser’, this is on hand to highlight just how skillfully and safely you are driving your MINI. From engine temperature and climate to whether you are using the MINI Sport function, this app will let you know if you’re “Ready for Excitement” by announcing it.
You really have to test one of the cars to see how intelligent the new system is and how well it works but all in all MINI has addressed a large portion of the wide ranging social requirements and needs of the new age driver.
