The Pathfinder has been manufactured by Nissan Motors since 1986, originally from Nissan’s compact pickup truck platform. The Pathfinder is slotted in size between the Murano and the Patrol.
In Dubai the SUV market segment is becoming more and more competitive as families scour the market for the best value utility vehicle which looks as big and as powerful as it’s 4x4 big brother but costs less and is increasingly fuel efficient. The SUV crossover has come about as a result of rising fuel bills, large families and therefore safety concerns and a near fanatical need to keep up the look and feel of the massive off roading beasts (it’s an ego thing!).
Nissan’s latest offering fits this description nicely; it looks muscular but curvy enough to please both male and female drivers. The inside is roomy and packed with tech including, remote start, Bose audio system and speakers (13 of them), Sat Nav, Blue Tooth etc. etc. everything the modern family could need to make a long journey with lots of young children, that much easier. Three rows of seats and the three zone AC will keep the brood cool and tempers even during Dubai’s hot summers.
Under the hood you will find a 3.5 litre V6 mated to the next generation Xtronic CVT. This creates seamless acceleration and increases fuel efficiency, handling is good and roll is minimal for such a big car. However, we found it to be underpowered and at times worryingly high pitched and loud, and this is despite a weight loss of 500 pounds on the previous model.
Conclusion: Good looking, roomy and high-tech but a little short on power.
